Congratulations Julie Prendergast on being Babylon Crossfit’s Member of the Month for September!

A Word From Our Coaches…

“Julie has been putting her best foot forward every time she steps foot into the gym. I’ve watched her push limits doing all different workouts, but one I remember is 100 burpees to a target for time! She’s been adding more weight to her lifts and really focusing on her form which I love to see! Congrats Julie! It’s well deserved! …” – Coach Melissa

“Julie is a pleasure to have in class, always smiling despite going head first into the unknown of our sometimes gruesome workouts. She’s always in good spirits and a good listener to coach feedback. Truly a testament to leaving life at the door and dedicating class time to personal development.” – Coach Corey

“Julie it’s always a pleasure to coach you and work out with you. Watching your first rope climb then a bunch more after is literally what Crossfit is all about. You are a hard worker and an even better babysitter for Jayden, so happy to have you a part of the community!” – Coach Trish

About Julie…

Most frequent class time and how many days/week do you Crossfit?
PM Classes.

What was your fitness background before you started at Babylon Crossfit?
I was never very active until about 5 years ago when I started doing home workouts, which worked great for me. Then one day Brian dragged me to a Crossfit class and I fell in love with the heavy weights and I really enjoyed working out with him! Fast forward 9 months and the pandemic closed the gym we were at and I went back to my home workouts. It took Brian a while to get me to come back to a gym again, but I’m so grateful he didn’t stop asking me!! These last few months at Babylon Crossfit have been amazing!!

What accomplishment are you the proudest of (outside and inside of the gym)?
I’d have to say my biggest accomplishment at the gym was the rope climb. I was so excited the first time I did it that I may have given a bit of a surprised yelp when I hit the top!

Outside of the gym, my greatest achievement is my career, I’m very proud to be a nurse and of the work that I do every single day.

After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?
My favorite meal after a workout lately is a protein shake with Brian’s Kodiak power cakes with blueberries, yum!

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit?
One of my interests outside of Crossfit is beach volleyball, I play every summer in a recreational league…honestly I’m terrible but I love it! I also love to travel and spend time with my family and friends.

What do you do for a living?
I’ve been an RN in a hospital for the last 25 years. Currently, I work an office job in Quality & Risk Management which is challenging.

What is one goal that you are currently working on?
So I have definitely been enjoying drinking and eating out a little too much this summer, right now I’m trying to dial in my nutrition and stay away from the junk. I try to remember that I can’t outwork a bad diet!

Favorite WOD?
It’s so hard to pick out a favorite WOD, it would be easier to tell you my least favorite (anything with running) lol. I’d probably have to say my favorite would have to be lifting, I love the build to max portion, they always make me feel like a little bit of a badass!💪 If you ever see me taking a video of myself it might be to check my form but more than likely it’s to send to my dad. He’s my biggest fan and he gets such a kick out of watching what his little (49-year-old) girl can do! 🤣

Favorite Cheat Meal?
Swell Taco is my vice…sangria, tacos, and chips with salsa verde!! 😋 You will never see me in the gym on a Friday night, I may walk past the gym and wave hello after dinner but that is always my rest day and cheat day!

Favorite memory at Babylon Crossfit?
My favorite memory at Babylon Crossfit would probably have to be the 100 burpee workout where I thought I might vomit or die (I didn’t do either 🤣). I was the last one to finish and still had 10 more to go when we hit the time cap. I was so ready to say I’m done, but every single person in that class stayed, cheered me on, and encouraged me to keep going. Meg gave me the final push when she jumped in and did the last few with me. That was a feeling of family and I love that about this gym!

If you had a music genre, song, or artist playing in your head at all times what/who would it be?
P!nk is my all time favorite, that girl can sing!

What’s on your DVR/current favorite TV series & favorite Phone app?
I’m a sucker for a good drama like This is Us, A Million Little Things, or Gray’s Anatomy. Reality shows like Below Deck are a guilty pleasure and I really wish there were a few more seasons of Schitts Creek!

Top 3 Instagram Accounts you follow:
@Laurasykora: I started following her years ago because I loved her yoga posts and then somewhere along the line she started doing Crossfit and I love the combo of the two.

@drpimplepopper: Because who doesn’t love a good pimple popping video?!

@humansofny: Always interesting stories.

@babyloncrossfit: Of course!

Any advice for people who are just getting started with CrossFit or maybe too afraid to start?
My advice to someone who is just getting started in Crossfit would be to not give up, just keep showing up! I don’t think I would say it gets any easier but it definitely feels better the more conditioned you become and the stronger you get. To anyone that’s afraid to try Crossfit…what do you have to lose, really? Our coaches work with everyone regardless of age, ability, or skill level and exhibit such patience. They take the time in every single class to break down the movements and that is so vital.
