I know in the past I’ve tried to scale the open because I didn’t have my muscle-ups or some other skill but my coaches still had me RX even if that meant standing there the entire workout. Little did I know that this was the match that lit the fire for Charlotte. She has far exceeded any expectations I had from the onset of the Open. She said she had 5-10 doubles.. but how about that 20.1 score, 138 reps!” – Coach Corey

About Charlotte…

Most frequent class time and how many days/week do you Crossfit?
Usually, you’ll see me at 6 pm, followed by a 7 pm Open Gym/Gymnastics. You can catch me at 6 am and on weekends too, though.

What was your fitness background before you started at Babylon Crossfit?
That’s a tricky question. When I joined Babylon Crossfit in November of 2020, I was probably in the worst shape of my life, certainly at my heaviest. A 15-minute bike ride was a challenge. When I was younger I did MMA pretty regularly, but from about 2010 to 2020, I’d say I never exerted myself for more than 15 minutes maybe twice a week. Does marching band count?

What accomplishment are you the proudest of (outside and inside of the gym)?
Inside the gym, I think my biggest accomplishment so far has really been The Open. I was able to RX two of the workouts so far while being 6 months into CrossFit. I’ve gotta give that up to all the coaches and my classmates for always pushing me a bit harder and for believing in me.

Outside of the gym is tough. I’m sure it could be something like traveling or some piece of paper in a frame, but I think I can be proudest of the fact that I am at a point in my life journey where I feel like I am where I am supposed to be. After graduating college, I felt sort of lost, but right now, I feel like there is a good balance in my life and I would be lying if I said that wasn’t due to the people and confidence that CrossFit has given me.

After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?
Crispy Chicken Ranch Wrap from the Post Office Cafe in Babylon or a plate of spaghetti.

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit?
I’ve been pretty addicted to fitness since joining CrossFit, but I would say playing music, cooking authentic recipes from places I’ve traveled to or want to see, photography, skiing, and Jess King Peloton rides.

What do you do for a living?
I work on the marketing team for Blue Point Brewing, specifically, I work on social media.

What is one goal that you are currently working on?
I think my biggest goal for CrossFit is to develop strong endurance. Of course, I also focus on skills like TTB, but one day I would really like to have the endurance to welcome a long run in a WOD.

Favorite WOD?
I really love any WOD that is going to make me collapse to the floor once I am done. That feeling sucks at the moment, but I don’t think anything really compares to that feeling of accomplishment of…Hey, I did that! (cough cough 21.2) I also really love partner WODS.

Beyond that I love to row and heavy barbell work like strict press.

Favorite Cheat Meal?
Crispy Chicken Ranch Wrap from the Post Office Cafe in Babylon or a plate of spaghetti with homemade sauce.

Favorite memory at Babylon Crossfit?
I don’t know if there is one specific memory just yet, but I think the best times are just when we’re all suffering together in a WOD then come together after and hang out. So MURPH or after Open workouts when we are all just so proud of each other. We really are each other’s biggest fans.

If you had a music genre, song, or artist playing in your head at all times what/who would it be?
That’s a dangerous question…it really could be anything from 50s Doo-Wop to Bowie, to Post Malone.

What’s on your DVR/current favorite TV series & favorite Phone app?
Basically, I re-watch Parks & Rec every chance I get…so I don’t watch new TV.

Favorite phone app is Instagram or YouTube so I can look up how to do lifts better or motivate myself with CrossFit YouTubers..but also to watch nerdy stuff like history documentaries.

Any advice for people who are just getting started with CrossFit or maybe too afraid to start?
Everyone that has stepped into a CrossFit box has had the exact same feelings as you at the start of their journey. We’ve all been scared and we all have gotten those pre-workout jitters. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, we all want each other to reach our goals. Just remember that you can do this. Push yourself a bit further every day and before you know it, you’re going to be doing the things you never dreamed of doing.

Plus if there is a challenge in the gym like MURPH, The Open, or a half marathon row, sign up. The community you find at those events is so special. Plus, once you’re done, you see how much you learn about your skills and abilities as an athlete.
