Congratulations Megan LaFrance on being Babylon Crossfit’s Member of the Month for January!

A Word From Our Coaches…

“Megan is extremely hard working! She consistently puts in extra time at the open gym, always working on her lifts and some extra cardio and setting goals, and going for them. Since the time she’s been at Babylon Crossfit, she’s been part of the community, always encouraging others and leading by example! Megan’s drive and encouragement to others is exactly why she’s our member of the month!” – Coach Melissa

“Megan is an extremely humble athlete. She is quiet, but man is she fierce and I absolutely love her willingness to listen and learn. If you haven’t had a chance to catch Meg in class or open gym, she is normally the one walking on her hands across the gym, one day she’ll teach me. ” – Coach Trish

About Megan…

Most frequent class time and how many days/week do you Crossfit?
Mostly the 6 am has been my go-to – but I’ll pop up at 6 pm every now and again.

What was your fitness background before you started at Babylon Crossfit?
Before starting at Babylon Crossfit I was a member of Port CrossFit in Port Jefferson. Was there for about 9 years, but then I moved, and Covid happened, so here I am! Prior to CrossFit – I had pretty much zero athletic background. I’d go through spurts of working out on and off, but just never stuck with it until CrossFit.

What accomplishment are you the proudest of (outside and inside of the gym)?
Mostly, I’m proud of sticking to almost 10 years of CrossFit and being able to stay fairly competitive at RX movements. I also did 2 mini triathlons in 2019 and my first (very slow) half marathon last year, and for someone who hates running – those were pretty huge.

After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?
Steak and mashed potatoes.

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit?
Do cross-fitters really do anything but CrossFit and talk about CrossFit? I’m a big fan of the beach – no matter what the season – there’s just something about the sand and the ocean that I love – but I do love it a little more in the summer. I love watching sunrises and sunsets and dabble with taking pictures.

What do you do for a living?
I’ve been in the banking industry for 20 plus years, currently working as an operations analyst handling electronic payments.

What is one goal that you are currently working on?
Getting back into pre-covid shape – 6 months off will really mess you up.

Favorite WOD?
I don’t really have a favorite WOD, I’m a big fan of Murph – Love what the workout stands for and pushing through those tough moments. Otherwise, anything with hang power cleans – I’m pretty excited about.

Favorite Cheat Meal?
Pizza and ice cream.

Favorite memory at Babylon Crossfit?
Doing the Murph and hearing from Michael’s dad was really special, especially since that was within my first month back at CrossFit.

If you had a music genre, song, or artist playing in your head at all times what/who would it be?
I’m a big fan of listening to movie scores – so anything by Hans Zimmer will help me push through.

What’s on your DVR/current favorite TV series & favorite Phone app?
Not a huge TV person, so no real favorite. But I’m gearing up to binge season 2 of the Mandalorian soon. Instagram is my go-to app – I spend way too much time there.

Any advice for people who are just getting started with CrossFit or maybe too afraid to start?
I honestly have more unsolicited advice than I could fit on a page. To try and keep it short: If you’re afraid to start – all you have to do is show up. The hardest move is stepping through the doors, but I guarantee, once you do, you’ll find yourself surrounded by people who want to see you succeed. For people who are new; listen, watch, ask questions. Again, everyone around you wants to see you succeed.
